Tampa, Fla.----The University of Tampa Spartans had six different players score multiple goals Tuesday night en route to a 21-2 victory over visiting Wingate University in Deep South Conference lacrosse action. The Spartans improve to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the DSC, while Wingate falls to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
Matt Bilak got the Spartans on the board four minutes into the contest. That would be all of the scoring in the opening period. Tampa piled up eight goals in the second to take a 9-0 lead at halftime. Bilak and
Kyle Hemrick had two goals each in the second.
Hemrick’s goal three minutes into the third put the Spartans on top 11-0. Wingate scored its lone goal at the 10:49 mark, when sophomore midfielder

Jonathan Franzese scored twice in the first three minutes of the fourth for Tampa, while
AJ DeSimone’s goal with 1:07 to go made it 21-1. Junior midfielder
Bryce Sneed (Apex, N.C.) scored with 21 seconds remaining in the contest to make the final margin 21-2.
Tampa out-shot Wingate 56-20 on the night. Hemrick and Bilak had four goals each to lead the Tampa attack. The Spartans won 17-of-26 face-offs, while piling up 44 ground balls compared to 23 from the Bulldogs. Redshirt junior
Patrick Cooney (Cazenovia, N.Y.) got the start at goalie for Wingate, notching five saves in 27:36 of action.
Joseph Fiorucci had four saves in 40:15 of action for Tampa, allowing just one goal.
Wingate returns to action Saturday, hosting Lenoir-Rhyne at 2 p.m. Tampa hosts Catawba Saturday at 1 p.m.
