Augusta, Ga.----The ninth-ranked Augusta State University men’s tennis team defeated #32 Wingate 7-2 in NCAA Division II men’s tennis action Thursday afternoon. The 46th-ranked Augusta State women defeated #34 Wingate 6-3. The Wingate men fall to 8-5 overall, while the women fall to 7-5 on the season.
The Augusta State men won all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead heading to singles play. Freshman
Kennedy Cancelado (Miami Springs, Fla.) notched another impressive victory in number one singles action, winning 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8). Freshman
Roberto Hennis (Raleigh, N.C.) added a 6-4, 6-3 victory at number four singles for the Bulldogs.
The Wingate women’s number one doubles team of Junior
Ali Evers (Roswell, Ga.) and sophomore
Becca Thomas (Alpharetta, Ga.) registered an 8-6 victory. Augusta State won the other two doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead heading to singles action.
Evers notched her second win of the day at number one singles, prevailing 6-1, 6-2. Thomas added a 6-4, 6-3 victory at number two singles for the Bulldogs.
Wingate returns to action Saturday, hosting Carson-Newman in SAC tennis action at 11 a.m.
