Hartsville, S.C.----The Wingate University men’s and women’s tennis teams split an NCAA Division II Southeast Region tennis twin bill with Coker College Saturday afternoon at the Coker Tennis Courts. The number 49 Wingate women blanked the host Cobras 9-0, while the number 42 Bulldog men dropped a 5-4 decision. The non-conference doubleheader concludes the regular season schedule for both teams.

Wingate played its fifth 5-4 match in a row and eighth nail-biter this season. Coker freshman
Martin Moncayo (Quito, Ecuador) won the deciding match, topping sophomore
Josh Eardley (Newcastle, Staffordshire, England) 7-5, 6-2 at the number six singles flight. Moncayo was one of two Cobras to win twice Saturday. He teamed with junior James Corfield (Auckland, New Zealand) to defeat Eardley and WU freshman
Sebastian Hall (Lörrach, Germany) 8-4 in the number three doubles contest.
The Cobras led 2-1 after doubles. Three singles matches went three sets, with the Bulldogs claiming victories in two of the marathons. Wingate junior
Ryan Forbes (Charlotte, N.C.) defeated Coker sophomore
George Handy (Aiken, S.C.) 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 at the number five singles position, tying the match at 4-4.
Forbes was the only Bulldog to win twice. In doubles, he paired with freshman
Kennedy Cancelado (Miami Springs, Fla.) to defeat Cobra freshmen
Tom Sizeland (Hamilton, New Zealand) and
William Marrafao (Sao Paulo, Brazil) 8-3 at the number two flight. Sophomore
Neal Towlson (Warwick, Bermuda) and freshman
Roberto Hennis (Raleigh, N.C.) also won singles matches for the visitors.

Helen Goreski (Oakville, Ontario) did lose a game as she led the Bulldogs to their 17th victory of the season. Goreski and sophomore
Tiffany Williams (Cary, N.C.) started the day with an 8-0 number three doubles victory over Coker junior
Rachel Solomon (Bluffton, S.C.) and freshman
Anna Musiyenko (Kharkiv, Ukraine).
Goreski completed her perfect day with a 6-0, 6-0 number six singles triumph over Solomon. Williams defeated Coker senior
Brittany Yando (Sumter, S.C.) 6-1, 6-1 at the number four singles flight. On the afternoon, Wingate lost only 14 games in singles action.

Ali Evers (Roswell, Ga.) defeated Coker freshman
Daniela Chipe (Guayaquil, Ecuador) 6-2, 6-2. Evers and sophomore
Becca Thomas (Alpharetta, Ga.) bested Chipe and Cobra freshman
Jessi Campos (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) 8-4 at the number one doubles position.
Both Wingate teams will begin play in the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament next week. The league office will announce pairings Sunday. Coker will turn its attention to the Conference Carolinas tournament. The Wingate women and the Coker men earned regular season championships in their respective leagues.
