Wingate men and women fall to Campbell in 2014 openers

Wingate, N.C.----The Campbell University men's tennis team defeated Wingate University 8-1 Saturday afternoon, while the Campbell women won 9-0. Both Campbell teams improve to 1-0 overall, while both Wingate teams are 0-1 on the season.

On the men's side, junior Neal Towlson (Warwick, Bermuda) and sophomore Sebastian Hall (Lorrach, Germany) dropped an 8-4 decision at number one doubles, while the other two doubles matches were won by the Camels 8-0 and 8-2.  

In men's singles action, freshman Filippo Pezzoli (Milan, Italy) won 6-1, 6-4 in number three singles. Freshman Connor Kudrick (Spring, Texas) won the opening set 6-1 in number one singles, but fell 6-4, 6-3 in the final two sets against Marthinus Visser.

On the women's side, senior Morgan Winston (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and sophomore Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) dropped an 8-4 decision at number three doubles. Campbell claimed the other two doubles matches 8-1 and 8-1.

Junior Becca Thomas (Alpharetta, Ga.) took the opening set at number three singles, but dropped set two 7-5. The match was decided in a tiebreaker, which Campbell's Natasha Afridi won 10-5.  

The Bulldogs return to action next Saturday, traveling to Gardner-Webb to take on Gardner-Webb and North Greenville.
