Wingate returns home Saturday to host #14 LMU on Senior Day

Wingate, N.C.----After a span of three road games in five days, the Wingate University Bulldogs return home to face the 14th-ranked Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial University Saturday at 4 p.m. in Cuddy Arena. The Bulldogs will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, honoring three seniors playing their final season at Wingate. The 'Dogs enter the weekend 13-10 overall and 10-9 in the SAC. LMU is 21-2 overall and 17-2 in the conference.

Wingate wrapped up a tough three-game road trip Wednesday night at Coker, falling 75-59 to the Cobras. The trip started last Saturday, when the 'Dogs dropped a 67-60 decision at Carson-Newman. Wingate led by five with five minutes to go, but the Eagles ended the contest on a 13-1 run. The Bulldogs dropped a 59-58 heartbreaker at Queens on Monday night. Wingate led by 15 in the second half, but went over 10 minutes without a field goal and Queens scored four points in the final 15 seconds to claim the one-point win.

Before the three-game road trip, Wingate registered an 85-75 victory over Anderson. Junior guard Ryan Daye (Burlington, N.C.) had 19 points and four assists to lead the Wingate attack, while senior center Deion Turman (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 15 points and 13 boards. Sophomore guard Xavier Griffin (Marshville, N.C.) also had 15 points, adding five rebounds and four assists. Freshman forward Isiah Cureton (Waxhaw, N.C.) registered a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards for the Bulldogs, adding two blocks and two assists.

Wingate and Lincoln Memorial met Jan. 11 in Harrogate, with the Railsplitters prevailing 81-67. Vincent Bailey had 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead the LMU attack, while Curtis Webb added 14 points off the bench on five-of-six shooting. Keenan Peterson contributed 11 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks for LMU. Turman had 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Wingate attack, while Daye added 15 points for the Bulldogs.

Daye leads the Bulldogs and ranks eighth in the SAC with 17.7 points per game. He has scored 19 or more points 11 times this season, while topping the 30-point mark on four occasions. Daye ranks fifth in the SAC in free throw percentage (84.8 percent). Turman is averaging 12.9 points and a league-best 10.0 rebounds per game. He ranks 19th nationally with 11 double-doubles while ranking 14th in rebounds per contest.

Freshman Josh Dominguez (Matthews, N.C.) is third on the team with 10.1 points per game, shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from three-point range. Cureton averaged 9.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, ranking fourth with 1.5 steals per contest. Senior center Jeff Parker (Madison, N.C.) is second in the SAC with 2.1 blocks per game, adding 7.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest. Griffin is fifth in the league with 3.9 assists per game, ranking sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio while adding 7.7 points per game.

LMU has already clinched a share of the regular season SAC title, marking the third league championship in four years for the Railsplitters. Bailey leads Lincoln Memorial and ranks second in the SAC with 21.7 points per game, shooting 64 percent from the field while ranking second with 9.3 rebounds per contest. Chance Jones contributes 14.7 points per game, shooting 44.2 percent from three-point range while Lorenza Ross averages 10.3 points and 4.2 assists per contest.
