Bulldogs close out regular season with fourth straight win

Mars Hill, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs got a go-ahead three-point play from Kendall Campbell with 19 seconds left Saturday evening en route to a 72-70 victory at Mars Hill University in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action. The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season at 15-13 overall and 10-12 in the SAC, while the Lions fall to 9-19 overall and 3-19 in league play.  

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 45 percent from the field, going 12-for-25 from three-point range (48 percent)
- Mars Hill shot 43 percent from the field, connecting on 13-of-29 from deep (45 percent)
- The Lions held a 37-31 rebounding advantage and 12-6 edge in second-chance points
- The 'Dogs scored 23 points off 13 MHU turnovers
- Wingate was 10-for-15 at the free throw line; Mars Hill went seven-for-11
- The Bulldogs outscored the Lions 24-18 in the paint

KEY BULLDOGS

- Campbell had 19 points and nine rebounds on seven-of-nine shooting from the field
- Stephen Quinn added 15 points, going five-for-seven from beyond the arc
- Jordan Miller had 11 points, five boards, four assists and three steals
- Corbin Pack contributed nine points and four rebounds
- Alex Godley and Derek Bradley added six and five points, respectively

FIRST HALF

- Triples from Pack and Godley gave the 'Dogs an early 9-4 lead
- A Caden Owens three cut the lead to one at the 14:15 mark
- Threes from Miller and Quinn gave Wingate an 18-13 advantage
- Jaheim Taylor's triple cut the lead back to one with 11 minutes left
- Buckets from Campbell and Bradley pushed the lead back to six at 27-21
- Gabriel Erbeck's jumper with six minutes left tied it at 27
- Wingate scored the next six, taking a 33-27 lead on Miller's jumper at the 4:47 mark
- An Erbeck triple with two minutes to go trimmed the lead to three
- WU scored the next seven, getting a jumper and triple from Pack to go on top 42-32
- A Keenan Wilkins three in the final seconds cut the halftime lead to seven

SECOND HALF

- An Alejandro Ford three at the 16:33 mark made it a one-point game
- WU scored the next nine, getting the first six from Campbell while a Pack three capped it to make it 53-43
- A dunk and free throw from Jayden Street stretched the lead to 11
- A Marvin Hires jumper with nine minutes to go made it 57-53
- Quinn answered with a triple to push the lead back to seven
- Another Quinn three at the 5:51 mark put the 'Dogs on top 66-59
- Mars Hill scored the next 11, taking a 70-66 lead on a Wilkins triple at the 4:05 mark
- The Bulldogs held the Lions scoreless the rest of the way
- An Isaiah Vick jumper with 1:42 to go cut the lead to two
- A Vick steal with 32 seconds left gave the ball back to the Bulldogs
- Campbell's three-point play with 19 seconds to go gave Wingate a 71-70 lead
- Erbeck missed a jumper with three seconds left, with Campbell grabbing the rebound
- He made one free throw in the final second, making the final margin 72-70
