Wingate, N.C.----The 42nd-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs won two doubles matches and three singles matches Saturday afternoon, prevailing 5-4 over No. 36 Coker College in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action. Wingate improves to 5-4 overall and 3-0 in the SAC, while the Cobras fall to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-1 lead with wins at number two and three doubles. Senior Ryan Forbes (Charlotte, N.C.) and freshman Connor Kudrick (Spring, Texas) won 8-4 at number two doubles, while an 8-3 victory from freshman Tyler Schofer (Graham, N.C.) and Fillippo Pezzoli (Milan, Italy) made it 2-1 heading to singles action.

Kudrick cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at number four singles to make it 3-1. Coker notched wins at number one and two singles to tie the match 3-3. Junior Josh Eardley (Newcastle, England) put Wingate on top 4-3 with a 6-0, 6-4 in at number six singles. Pezzoli won the clincher at number three singles. After winning 6-3 in the first set, he dropped set two 6-4. The freshman rebounded with a 6-3 win in the final set to give the Bulldogs the 5-4 victory.

Wingate returns to action Tuesday, hosting Coker at 2 p.m.
