#34 Wingate wins 7-2 over Lenoir-Rhyne to cap perfect SAC season

Wingate, N.C.----The 34th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs defeated visiting Lenoir-Rhyne University 7-2 Friday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action. Wingate moves to 16-6 overall and 11-0 in the SAC. The victory gives the Bulldogs their third regular season SAC title in four years, while also giving Wingate its fourth undefeated SAC season in six years. Lenoir-Rhyne falls to 5-15 overall and 3-8 in the conference.

The Bulldogs won two of three doubles matches Friday afternoon. Junior Neal Towlson (Warwick, Bermuda) and sophomore Sebastian Hall (Lörrach, Germany) got it started with an 8-6 win at number one doubles. An 8-4 win from freshmen Filippo Pezzoli and Tyler Schofer (Graham, N.C.) made it 2-1 heading to singles play.

Towlson cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at number one singles, while Pezzoli's 6-1, 6-2 win at number three singles made it 4-1. A 6-3, 6-1 victory from Hall clinched the win for the Bulldogs at number two singles. Freshman Connor Kudrick (Spring, Texas) cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at number four singles, while a 6-2, 6-4 win at number six singles made the final 7-2.

The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday, finishing the regular season at Mount Olive at 1 p.m. Wingate will be the number one seed at next week's Food Lion SAC title, where the 'Dogs will look for their second SAC Tournament title in three years.
