Wingate places 110 student-athletes on SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll

Rock Hill, S.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs had 110 student-athletes named to the 2014 South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll, which was released Monday morning. To be eligible for inclusion on the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, student-athletes must have competed in a sponsored championship sport and maintained a cumulate GPA of 3.30 or higher throughout the academic year.

A record 1,172 student-athletes, spanning each of the SAC's 12 member schools and 18 championship sports, have qualified for the 2013-14 SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll. The number of honorees represents an increase of 366 from last year's list.

"SAC student-athletes are among the most well-rounded individuals on their respective campuses," SAC Commissioner Patrick Britz says. "I am extremely proud of the efforts made by our student-athletes and support staff in making 2013-14 a record-breaking year in the classroom."

Wingate's total of 110 student-athletes ranks third in the 12-team conference. Lenoir-Rhyne leads the way with 137 honorees, while Queens has 133.

The 2013-14 academic year was another successful one at Wingate, as the Bulldogs piled up 14 conference titles and three regional championships. Wingate had three SAC Scholar Athletes in 2013-14, giving the Bulldogs 63 all-time Scholar Athletes, which leads the conference. There have also been six Bulldogs that have earned Academic All-America® honors this year, including three first team selections. Wingate's 72 lifetime Academic All-America® picks are tops among all South Atlantic Conference schools.

The Bulldogs won the SAC Echols Athletic Excellence Award for the eighth consecutive year, winning by a record-shattering 44 points. Wingate also notched its best-ever finish in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup, finishing a conference-best 24th with a school-record 469 points.
