Hartsville, S.C.----Five different Bulldogs scored Wednesday night as 11th-ranked Wingate University picked up a 5-0 victory at Coker College in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action. Wingate improves to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the SAC, while the Cobras fall to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
Wingate jumped out 1-0 lead in the 25th minute, with sophomore defender
Mackenzie Cherniuk (Massillon, Ohio) scoring her first goal of the year on a free kick.
The Bulldogs scored four times in the second half, starting with a goal from junior midfielder
Kaitlyn Brunworth (Littleton, Colo.) five minutes after intermission.
Freshman
Gabby Caliendo (Orlando, Fla.) scored her third goal of the year in the 59th minute, getting a
Taylor Leyble (Jacksonville, N.C.) assist to give Wingate a 3-0 lead.
Junior
Maggie Smith (Monroe, N.C.) took a pass from senior
Victoria Fichman (Matthews, N.C.) and netted here first goal of the season to push the lead to four with 12 minutes remaining.
Wingate's final goal of the night came in the 86th minute, when freshman
Alex Beery (Upper Arlington, Ohio) scored her first career goal to make it 5-0.
The Bulldogs finished the night with an 18-3 advantage in shots, with an 11-1 edge in shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper
Alexis Jones (Midway Park, N.C.) had one save to preserve the Wingate shutout.
Shelby Middleton had six saves for the Cobras.
