Mount Olive claims hard-fought 12-7 victory over visiting Wingate Saturday

Box Score Mount Olive, N.C.----The Mount Olive men's lacrosse team claimed a hard-fought 12-7 NCAA Division II victory over Wingate University Saturday afternoon at Amon Field. With the win, the Trojans avenge a 15-14 triple overtime loss to the Bulldogs last season (Feb. 22, 2014). Mount Olive is 3-0 overall on the young season, while Wingate is 0-2 overall.
 
Sophomore attack Austin Murphy (Orillia, Ontario) had two goals and one assist for the visitors. Five teammates had one goal each; both Bulldog senior midfield Cory Schumacher (Gainesville, Va.) and junior attack Ryan Vogrig (Vancouver, B.C.) had one goal and one assist each.
 
Wingate sophomore goalie Jacob Ormerod (Lake Mary, Fla.) had 16 saves. The Bulldogs scored one EMO goal in 10 extra-man opportunities. Wingate returns to action Tuesday, hosting Chestnut Hill (Pa.) at the Irwin Belk Track Complex turf field. First face-off is slated for 6 p.m. Mount Olive hosts Coker Wednesday at 4 p.m.
