#30 Bulldogs open SAC slate with 6-3 triumph over Mars Hill Saturday

Wingate, N.C.----The number 30 Wingate University men's tennis team opened its 2015 South Atlantic Conference schedule with a 6-3 victory over Mars Hill University Saturday at the WU Tennis Complex. Junior Sebastian Hall (Lörrach, Germany) and sophomore Filippo Pezzoli (Milan, Italy) won two matches each for the victorious Bulldogs.
 
With the victory, Wingate improves to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the SAC. Mars Hill falls to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in the SAC. The Bulldogs host local rival Johnson C. Smith University Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
"It feels good to get the first win under our belts," Wingate head men's tennis coach Michael Cabana says. "We need to improve and play better moving forward. We will look to get better tomorrow and into next week with some very tough matches on the horizon."
 
Hall started his day by teaming with senior Neal Towlson (Warwick, Bermuda) to take an 8-4 victory at the number one doubles flight. In singles, Hall topped MHU junior Markus Gattner (Naumburg, Germany) 6-2, 6-2 at the number three position.
 
Pezzoli paired with redshirt freshman Amir Zari (Jerusalem, Israel) to claim an 8-1 triumph in the number three doubles match. Pezzoli concluded his day with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Mars Hill junior Sam Lee (Decatur, Ga.) at the number five singles flight.
