Bulldogs down West Virginia Wesleyan 7-2 for fourth straight win

The Wingate University Bulldogs went 5-1 in singles action and 2-1 in doubles play Friday morning en route to a 7-2 victory over visiting West Virginia Wesleyan in NCAA Division II men's tennis action. Wingate improves to 6-3 overall while the Bobcats fall to 1-4 on the season.

The match started with singles play, as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 5-1 lead. Freshman Amir Zari (Jerusalem, Israel) won 6-2, 6-3 at number two singles, while junior Sebastian Hall (Lorrach, Germany) prevailed 6-1, 6-1 at number three singles. Sophomore Connor Kudrick (Spring, Texas) won 6-2, 6-1 at four singles, while classmate Filippo Pezzoli (Milan, Italy) cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number five singles. A 6-3, 6-2 win at six singles from freshman Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) put the 'Dogs on top 5-1 heading to doubles play.

DuToit and sophomore Tyler Schofer (Graham, N.C.) teamed for an 8-4 win at number one doubles for Wingate. Senior Josh Eardley (Newcastle, England) and junior Westin Bennett (Calgary, Alberta) added an 8-6 win at number two doubles for the Bulldogs.

Wingate is back in action Tuesday, traveling to Newberry for a 2 p.m. start.
