Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University sophomore outfielder
Colby Barnette (Monroe, N.C) had three homers and seven RBI Saturday afternoon, leading the Bulldogs to a doubleheader sweep over visiting Mars Hill University in South Atlantic Conference baseball action at Ron Christopher Stadium and Plyler Athletic Field. Wingate improves to 20-9 overall and 12-9 in the SAC, while the Lions fall to 10-16 overall and 5-12 in the conference.

Bradley Brown (Rockingham, N.C.) was three-for-four with a homer and two runs scored, while senior infielder
Blake Prince (Winter Park, Fla.) added a homer and two RBI.
Wingate got on the board in the second, when Brown connected on his fifth homer of the season, a solo shot to right to make it 1-0.
The Bulldogs plated four more runs in the fourth to take a five-run lead. Barnette started it with a two-run shot to left, while Prince connected on a two-run homer to left two batters later to make it 5-0.
Wingate added three runs in the fifth to go on top by eight. A walk and a single put two on base for Barnette, who deposited his second homer of the day and sixth of the year over the fence in left center, a three-run shot to make it 8-0.
Mars Hill's lone run came on an RBI single from
Lance Edwards in the seventh inning.
Redshirt freshman right-hander
Jimmy Doolittle (Charlotte, N.C.) picked up the win, moving to 3-3 on the year. He allowed a run on just three hits in seven strong innings, striking out four while throwing 106 pitches. Sophomore
Cameron Price (Indian Trail, N.C.) worked the final two innings, striking out three and allowing just one hit.
Caleb Edwards took the loss, falling to 0-4. He allowed eight runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings, striking out one and walking three.
Game Two: Wingate 8, Mars Hill 3Junior outfielder
Bill Krebs (West Chester, Pa.) had a homer, triple, three RBI and two runs scored to lead the Wingate offense in game two. Barnette added a homer and two RBI, while Brown was two-for-three with two RBI and a run scored.
Dylan Powers went two-for-three with an RBI to lead the MHU offense.
David King also had an RBI, while
Christian Stampler was one-for-one with a run scored for the Lions.
Wingate jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, thanks to an inside-the-park homer from Krebs.
Mars Hill scored three times in the third to take its first lead of the day. Stampler started the inning with a double, then scored on a passed ball. King's RBI groundout gave the Lions a 2-1 lead, while an RBI single from Power pushed the lead to two.
The Bulldogs responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame to regain the lead. Three straight singles loaded the bases for Brown, who delivered a two-run single through the right side, while an error on the play allowed the third run to score. Barnette followed with his third homer of the day and seventh of the year, a two-run shot to left to give the 'Dogs a 6-3 lead.
The Bulldogs added two more runs in the sixth. With two outs and nobody on base, a single and walk put two on for Krebs, who lined a two-run triple to the gap in left center to make it 8-3.
Freshman right-hander
Brandon Dorsey (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) got the win, moving to 1-0. He tossed two-thirds shutout innings. Junior right-hander
Tyler Brown (Suffolk, Va.) tossed 3 2/3 shutout innings, allowing just one hit to notch his second save of the season.
Hunter Boydston took the loss, falling to 1-1. He allowed five runs on six hits in two innings of work.
Wingate is back in action Tuesday, traveling to Belmont Abbey for a 2 p.m. start.
