Wingate suffers first conference setback at #36 Queens

Charlotte, N.C.----The 36th-ranked Queens University Royals won all three doubles matches Wednesday afternoon en route to a 6-3 victory over visiting Wingate University in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action. Queens improves to 7-1 overall and 2-1 in the SAC, while the Bulldogs fall to 9-4 overall and 7-1 in the conference. Wingate sees its 19-match conference winning streak come to an end. The 'Dogs have won 58 of their last 62 league contests.

Queens prevailed 8-5 and 8-3 at number two and three doubles. Wingate's number one doubles team of senior Neal Towlson (Warwick, Bermuda) and junior Sebastian Hall (Lorrach, Germany) dropped a tough 9-7 match at number one doubles as the Royals took a 3-0 lead to singles play.

Queens picked up victories at number one, two and four singles to claim the match. Wingate got a 6-4, 6-0 win from Hall at number three singles play. Sophomore Filippo Pezzoli (Milan, Italy) added an 8-0 win at number five singles, while freshman Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) won 7-5, 6-3 at number six singles. Sophomore Connor Kudrick (Spring, Texas) dropped a tough match at number four singles. He won the first set 6-4, while dropping set two 4-6, then losing a third-set tiebreaker 11-9.

Wingate is back in action Friday, traveling to Lenoir-Rhyne for a 2 p.m. start.
