Box ScoreWingate, N.C.----The 32nd-ranked University of Mount Olive Trojans won all three doubles matches Sunday afternoon en route to a 6-3 victory over Wingate University in NCAA Division II men's tennis action. The Trojans improve to 10-3 overall, while the Bulldogs fall to 9-5 on the season.
Mount Olive took a 3-0 lead by sweeping through doubles play. The Trojans won 8-2 and 8-4 at two and three doubles, while Wingate's number one doubles team of senior
Neal Towlson (Warwick, Bermuda) and junior
Sebastian Hall (Lorrach, Germany) dropped a hard-fought 9-7 match.
Hall picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at number three singles for the Bulldogs. Sophomore
Connor Kudrick (Spring, Texas) prevailed 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 at number four singles, while sophomore
Filippo Pezzoli (Milan, Italy) won at number five singles when his opponent retired due to injury. Pezzoli won the first set 6-0, while dropping set two 6-4.
Wingate is back in action Wednesday, traveling to Anderson for a 2 p.m. match.
