Hickory, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs went 2-1 in doubles play and 4-2 in singles play Monday afternoon en route to a 6-3 victory at Lenoir-Rhyne University in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action. Wingate improves to 11-5 overall and 9-1 in the SAC. The Bears fall to 8-11 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
Sophomore
Connor Kudrick (Spring, Texas) and freshman
Amir Zari (Jerusalem, Israel) cruised to an 8-1 victory at number two doubles, while sophomores
Filippo Pezzoli (Milan, Italy) and
Tyler Schofer (Graham, N.C.) added an 8-4 win at number three doubles to give the 'Dogs a 2-1 lead heading to singles action.
Junior
Sebastian Hall (Lorrach, Germany) prevailed 6-4, 7-5 at number two singles for Wingate. Kudrick won 6-2, 6-2 at four singles, while Pezzoli added a 6-3, 6-1 win at number five singles. Freshman
Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) prevailed 6-1, 6-2 at number six singles for the Bulldogs.
Wingate is back in action Tuesday, traveling to Coker for a 2 p.m. contest in the final conference match of the regular season. A victory would clinch at least a share of the SAC title.Â
