Wingate guarantees a share of SAC title with 8-1 victory at Coker

Hartsville, N.C.----For the fifth time in the last seven years, the Wingate University Bulldogs have claimed at least a share of the regular season South Atlantic Conference title. Wingate won 8-1 at Coker College Tuesday in SAC men's tennis action to improve to 12-5 overall and 10-1 in the conference. The Bulldogs, who won the SAC regular season and tournament titles last season, are now 61-4 in conference play dating back to the 2009 season.

Wingate swept through doubles play at Coker on Tuesday. Senior Neal Towlson (Warwick, Bermuda) and junior Sebastian Hall (Lorrach, Germany) won 8-5 at number one doubles, while sophomore Connor Kudrick (Spring, Texas) and freshman Amir Zari (Jerusalem, Israel) notched a convincing 8-0 win at number two doubles. Sophomores Tyler Schofer (Graham, N.C.) and Filippo Pezzoli (Milan, Italy) added an 8-3 win at number three doubles to give the 'Dogs a 3-0 lead heading to singles play.

Hall won 6-2, 6-2 at number two singles, while Zari prevailed 6-2, 6-3 at three singles. Kudrick and Pezzoli won by identical 8-1 scores at four and five singles, while freshman Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) prevailed 6-2, 6-0 at number six singles.

Wingate is back in action Thursday, hosting Francis Marion at 2 p.m.
