Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bulldogs move to 3-0 on the year with 2-0 win over USC Aiken

Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University freshman forward Sophie Jendrzejczyk (St. Charles, Ill.) had a goal and an assist Saturday night, leading the Bulldogs to a 2-0 victory over visiting USC Aiken in NCAA Division II women's soccer action. Wingate improves to 3-0 on the season, while the Pacers fall to 0-4 overall.

Wingate got on the board with just over three minutes remaining in the first half.  Jendrzejczyk made a run down the right side, then crossed one to the middle, where junior midfielder Naomi Matley (Clover, S.C.) ripped a line drive from the top of the box past the keeper. It is Matley's first goal since her freshman season. The preseason All-SAC selection led the league with six assists last year.

Wingate held a 1-0 lead at halftime, outshooting the Pacers 4-2. All four Wingate shots were on goal in the opening 45 minutes.

The Bulldogs added to their lead in the 80th minute. Junior midfielder Kaitlyn Brunworth (Littleton, Colo.) got the play started by heading an attempted Aiken clear towards the box, where it was touched by junior Brooke Howell (Charlotte, N.C.) towards Jendrzejczyk. The freshman beat the Aiken keeper, grounding one into the bottom right corner of the goal to make it 2-0. Jendrzejczyk has scored in each of Wingate's last two contests.

The Bulldogs finished the night with a 12-5 advantage in shots. Wingate held a 7-4 edge in shots on goal while Aiken a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore Alexis Jones (Midway Park, N.C.) had four saves to notch Wingate's first shutout of the season. Karin Cadwalader had five saves for the Pacers.

The Bulldogs are back in action Wednesday, opening conference play at Mars Hill at 5 p.m.
