Box ScoreWingate, N.C.----The 48th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs remained perfect in league play Monday afternoon, notching a 7-2 victory over visiting Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action. Wingate improves to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in the SAC, while the Indians fall to 5-8 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
The Bulldogs picked up a pair of wins in doubles play, with senior
Sebastian Hall (Lorrach, Germany) and junior
Connor Kudrick (Spring, Texas) winning 8-2 at number one doubles. Juniors
Tyler Schofer (Graham, N.C.) and
Filippo Pezzoli (Milan, Italy) prevailed 9-8 at number three doubles, winning the tiebreaker 8-6 to give Wingate a 2-1 lead heading to singles play.
Hall cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at number one singles, while Kudrick won 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 at two singles. Pezzoli rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 victory at three singles, while Zari prevailed 6-4, 6-2 at number four singles. Sophomore
Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) capped the day with a 6-2, 6-4 win at number five singles.
The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday, traveling to Georgia College for a 12 p.m. match.
