Box ScoreGreeneville, Tenn.----The 49th-ranked Tusculum College Pioneers went 2-1 in doubles play Friday afternoon, then won the final two singles matches en route to a 5-4 victory over No. 48 Wingate University in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action. The Pioneers improve to 12-0 overall and 3-0 in the SAC, while Wingate falls to 10-4 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
Wingate's number one doubles team of senior
Sebastian Hall (Lorrach, Germany) and junior
Connor Kudrick (Spring, Texas) picked up a 9-8 victory for the Bulldogs. Tusculum won 8-5 and 8-6 and two and three doubles to take a 2-1 lead heading to singles play.
Sophomore
Amir Zari (Jerusalem, Israel) prevailed 6-4, 6-2 at four singles, but Tusculum won at number one singles to take a 3-2 lead. Sophomore
Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) won 6-4, 6-2 at five singles, while a 6-2, 6-2 victory at two singles from Kudrick gave the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead. The Pioneers tied the match with a victory at six singles. Tusculum's
Jonas Winkelmann won the clincher, rallying for a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory at three singles for the Pioneers.
Wingate is back in action Saturday, traveling to Carson-Newman for an 11 a.m. start.
