Box ScoreWingate, N.C.----The 48th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs closed out the regular season in style Sunday afternoon, rolling to a 9-0 victory over visiting Limestone College in NCAA Division II men's tennis action. The Bulldogs have now won seven straight, moving to 17-4 overall. The Saints fall to 8-10 on the season.
Wingate swept through doubles play, getting an 8-6 win at number one doubles from senior
Sebastian Hall (Lorrach, Germany) and junior
Connor Kudrick (Spring, Texas), who move to 14-4 at number one doubles play this season. Sophomore
Amir Zari (Jerusalem, Israel) teamed with freshman
Duncan Addison (Halifax, Canada) prevailed 8-5 at number two doubles, while juniors
Filippo Pezzoli (Milan, Italy) and
Tyler Schofer (Graham, N.C.) cruised to an 8-0 victory at number three doubles.
Hall picked up a 6-1, 6-3 victory at number one singles, notching his 14th win at number one singles this season. Kudrick won 6-2, 6-4 at two singles, while Pezzoli rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win at number three singles.
Zari prevailed 6-4, 6-1 at four singles, while sophomore
Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) notched a 6-0, 6-4 victory at number five singles, collecting his team-best 15th singles win of the season. The reigning SAC Player of the Week has won nine straight matches and has not dropped a set in the streak. Senior
Westin Bennett (Calgary, Alberta) cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at six singles, moving to 3-0 on the year.
The regular season SAC co-champion Bulldogs will be the number two seed in this week's South Atlantic Conference tournament, where Wingate is the two-time defending champion. The 'Dogs have an opening-round bye and will open tournament play Friday, April 22. The championship match is slated for Saturday, April 23. This year's tournament will take place at Brevard.
