Box ScoreWingate, N.C.----The 48th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs stayed in first place in the league standings with a 6-3 victory over visiting Coker College Thursday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action. Wingate improves to 15-4 overall and 9-1 in the SAC, while the Cobras fall to 5-11 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
The Bulldogs took two out of three doubles matches Thursday, starting with an 8-4 victory at two doubles from sophomore
Amir Zari (Jerusalem, Israel) and freshman
Duncan Addison (Halifax, Canada). Junior
Filippo Pezzoli (Milan, Italy) and
Tyler Schofer (Graham, N.C.) added an 8-2 victory at number three doubles to make it 2-1 heading to singles play.
Pezzoli prevailed 6-1, 6-1 at number three singles, but the Cobras won at two singles to make it 3-2. Zari rallied for a 1-6, 7-6, 6-3 victory at four singles, while sophomore
Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) won the clincher at number five singles, prevailing 6-2, 6-2. Senior
Sebastian Hall (Lorrach, Germany) rallied for a 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-6) win at number one singles for the Bulldogs.
Wingate is back in action Saturday, hosting Newberry at 11 a.m. on Senior Day.
