Anderson, S.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs out-shot Anderson University 22-8 Saturday afternoon, but could not find the back of the net, falling 2-0 in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action. The Trojans improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the SAC, while Wingate falls to 3-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Anderson jumped out to a quick lead, scoring twice in the first nine minutes. The first goal came just 3:36 into the contest when
Tina Shakes scored her eighth goal of the season to make it 1-0.
The Trojans added to their lead less than five minutes later, when
Alaina Gay converted a penalty kick to make it 2-0.
Wingate dominated possession for most of the contest, holding a 22-8 advantage in shots and a 13-3 edge in shots on goal. Sophomore
Kimmi Moore (Hubert, N.C.) led the way with five shots, including four shots on goal for the Bulldogs. Redshirt sophomore
Colleen Zickert (Arlington Heights, Ill.) added four shots, while senior
Kaitlyn Brunworth (Littleton, Colo.) and junior
Taylor Leyble (Jacksonville, N.C.) added three shots each.
Abby Helm piled up 13 saves for the Trojans. Junior goalkeeper
Alexis Jones (Midway Park, N.C.) had one save for the Bulldogs.
Wingate is back in action Wednesday, traveling to Queens for a 5 p.m. start.
