Both Wingate teams roll to 9-0 victories over Johnson C. Smith

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University men's and women's tennis teams cruised to 9-0 victories over visiting Johnson C. Smith University Sunday afternoon. The Wingate men improve to 3-1 overall, while the 46th-ranked Bulldog women move to 2-0 on the season.

The men rolled through doubles play, getting an 8-0 win at number two doubles from junior Jerome Desrosiers (Drummondville, Quebec) and sophomore Bram Delisse (Oss, Netherlands). Sophomore Duncan Addison (Halifax, Canada) and freshman Theo Dessacs (Toulouse, France) won 8-1 at one doubles, while junior Nicholas Oliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and freshman Tamir Geva (Jerusalem, Israel) won by the same score at three doubles to make it 3-0 heading to singles play.

Dessacs won 6-1, 6-2 at number one singles, while Oliveira prevailed 6-2, 6-1 at two singles. Senior Tyler Schofer (Graham, N.C.) and Delisse won 6-0, 6-0 at three and four singles, while Desrosiers picked up a 6-2, 6-0 victory at five singles. Addison capped the day with a 6-0, 6-1 win at number six singles.

The Bulldog women also cruised through doubles play, getting an 8-0 win at one doubles from juniors Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) and Maria Garcia (San Carlos, Venezuela). Seniors Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) and Sierra Parsons (Toronto, Ontario) won 8-1 at number two doubles, while Wingate won by forfeit at three doubles to take a 3-0 lead to singles action.

Freshman Elena Pellegrini (Livorno, Italy) and sophomore Sydney Homan (Huntsville, Ala.) rolled to 6-0, 6-0 wins at one and two singles. Womeodu won 6-1, 6-0 at number three singles, while freshman Marisa Ostoja (Split, Croatia) prevailed 6-1, 6-0 at four singles. Parsons notched a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number five singles, while the Bulldogs won by forfeit at six singles.

Both Wingate teams are back in action Friday, traveling to Francis Marion for a 2 p.m. start.
