Salisbury, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs won all six singles matches Thursday afternoon, cruising to an 8-1 victory at Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action. Wingate improves to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the SAC, while the Indians fall to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
The Bulldogs went 2-1 in doubles play, getting an 8-6 victory at one doubles from sophomore
Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) and freshman
Danny Belsito (Charlotte, N.C.). Sophomore
Duncan Addison (Halifax, Canada) teamed with freshman
Theo Dessacs (Toulouse, France) for an 8-2 win at three doubles to give Wingate a 2-1 advantage heading to singles play.
Senior
Filippo Pezzoli (Milan, Italy) rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at one singles, while Belsito notched a 6-2, 6-1 win at two singles. Dessacs prevailed 6-4, 6-1 at number three singles, while DuToit rallied for a 5-7, 7-2, 1-0 win at four singles. Junior
Nicholas Oliviera (Sao Paulo, Brazil) won 8-1 at number five singles, while freshman
Tamir Geva (Jerusalem, Israel) collected a 9-8 victory at six singles.
Wingate is back in action Saturday, traveling to Lincoln Memorial for an 11 a.m. start.
