Davidson, N.C.----The Davidson College Wildcats defeated visiting Wingate University 7-0 in NCAA men's tennis action Saturday afternoon. Davidson improves to 5-1 on the season, while the Bulldogs are 0-1 to start the year.
Playing by Division I rules, doubles counted as one total point. Freshman
Daniel Belsito (Charlotte, N.C.) and junior
Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) fell 6-4 at number one doubles, while juniors
Amir Zari (Jerusalem, Israel) and
Nicholas Oliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) dropped a 6-3 decision at number three doubles. Sophomore
Duncan Addison (Halifax, Canada) and freshman
Theo Dessacs (Toulouse, France) were tied 5-5 at number two doubles when Davidson clinched the doubles point.
In singles action, the Wildcats did not drop a set in any of the top three singles matches. DuToit lost a tight 7-6 opening set at four singles before falling 6-2 in the second set. Zari dropped his opening set at five singles 6-1, but came back to take set two 6-3 before falling in the tiebreaker.
Wingate is back in action Monday, hosting Belmont Abbey at 2:30 p.m.
