Bulldogs stay perfect in league play with 7-2 win over Carson-Newman

The Wingate University Bulldogs swept through doubles play Friday afternoon, rolling to a 7-2 victory over visiting Carson-Newman University in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action. Wingate moves to 9-2 overall and 5-0 in the SAC, while the Eagles fall to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in league play.

Wingate won all three doubles matches, starting with an 8-5 win at one doubles from junior Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) and freshman Daniel Belsito (Charlotte, N.C.). Senior Tyler Schofer (Graham, N.C.) and junior Amir Zari (Jerusalem, Israel) prevailed 8-5 at two doubles, while sophomore Duncan Addison (Halifax, Canada) teamed with freshman Theo Dessacs (Toulouse, France) for an 8-5 victory at number three doubles.

Senior Filippo Pezzoli (Milan, Italy) won 6-4, 6-3 at number one singles, while Belsito rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at two singles. DuToit prevailed 6-1, 6-2 at number three singles, while junior Nicholas Oliveira (Sau Paulo, Brazil) prevailed 6-1, 6-3 at number five singles.

Wingate is back in action Wednesday, hosting Queens at 2 p.m.
