Newberry, S.C.----The 42nd-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs bounced picked up a 7-2 road win Thursday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action at Newberry College. Wingate moves to 11-3 overall and 6-1 in the SAC, while the Wolves fall to 15-4 overall and 6-2 in league play.
Wingate went 2-1 in doubles play, getting an 8-5 win at number two doubles from seniors
Tyler Schofer (Graham, N.C.) and
Amir Zari (Jerusalem, Israel). Junior
Theo Dessacs (Toulouse, France) teamed with sophomore
Duncan Addison (Halifax, Canada) for an 8-3 victory at three doubles to give the 'Dogs a 2-1 advantage heading to singles play.
Senior
Filippo Pezzoli (Milan, Italy) rolled to a 6-0, 6-3 win at one singles, picking up his eighth win at number one singles this season, while Dessacs rallied for a 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 win at three singles to move to 6-0 in league play. DuToit cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at four singles, improving to 6-1 against SAC opposition, while Zari prevailed 6-2, 6-0 at five singles. Junior
Nicholas Oliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) capped the day with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at six singles to go to 6-1 in SAC singles action this season.
The Bulldogs are back in action Sunday, hosting Brevard at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
