Jefferson City, Tenn.----The Wingate University Bulldogs piled up a season-high 21 hits Friday afternoon, but Carson-Newman University used a five-run seventh inning to prevail 13-9 in South Atlantic Conference baseball action. The Eagles improve to 21-20 overall and 8-11 in the SAC, while the Bulldogs fall to 17-25 overall and 8-11 in league play.
Ryan Addington,
Greg Jones and
Brendan Campbell each homered to lead the Carson-Newman offense, with Jones driving in four runs and Addington adding three RBI.
Eric Lynch had two hits and two RBI, while
Paul Kirby added an RBI and a run scored.
Brett Langhorne was two-for-four with an RBI for the Eagles.

Bradley Brown (Rockingham, N.C.) was two-for-three with two homers and three RBI to lead the Wingate offense. Senior infielder
Colby Barnette (Monroe, N.C.) added a homer and three RBI, while sophomore catcher
Micah Goodwin (Rougemont, N.C.) was four-for-five with two doubles and an RBI for the Bulldogs. Sophomore infielder
Zach Little (Troutman, N.C.) went three-for-six with a double, RBI and two runs scored, while classmate
Reece Daniel (Asheboro, N.C.) also had three hits and a run scored. Sophomore outfielder
Matt Grecco (Norfolk, Va.) went one-for-three with an RBI and a run scored for the Bulldogs.
Wingate got on the board in the first when Little scored on Goodwin's RBI double. Lynch's RBI single in the bottom of the frame tied it 1-1.
The Bulldogs regained the lead in the third when Brown connected on his team-best 10th homer of the year, a two-run shot to right to make it 3-1. The Eagles took the lead back in the bottom of the frame when Jones connected on a three-run shot to center, making it 4-3.
RBI singles from Little and Barnette in the top of the fourth put the Bulldogs back on top by a run, but Addington's two-run homer in the bottom of the frame gave the Eagles a 6-5 advantage. Wingate tied it in the fifth on Grecco's sacrifice fly.
Addington put the Eagles on top 7-6 with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth. Carson-Newman scored five times in the seventh to push the lead to six. Campbell started the frame with a solo homer, while a Jones RBI double and Langhorne RBI single capped the scoring in the frame, making it 12-6.
Wingate scored three times in the eighth to get back within three. Barnette's third homer of the year started the scoring, a two-run shot to left center. Brown followed with his second homer of the day and 11th of the year to make it 12-9. Lynch's RBI single in the bottom of the frame made the final margin 13-9.
Ryan Eberle got the win, moving to 3-6. He allowed four runs on 10 hits in five innings, striking out two and walking one. Senior right-hander
Brandon Donahue (Charlotte, N.C.) took the loss, falling to 6-6. He allowed six runs on eight hits in three innings, striking out four and walking two.
The two teams are back in action Saturday, playing a doubleheader at 12 p.m.
