Bradenton, Fla. – Wingate University sophomore
Isaiah Kyle (Morristown, Tenn) claimed first team All-American laurels in the high jump on Saturday at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Kyle tied for seventh place along with Tevin Gladden (Fairbanks, Alaska) of Alaska Anchorage and Hunter Weeks (Homer, Mich.) of Grand Valley State after he cleared a height of 2.10 meters. This is Kyle's fourth career All-American honor in as many attempts.
Cervantes Jackson (Bainbridge, Ga.) of Albany State won the event after he cleared a height of 2.16 meters.
"Isaiah had a tough day," Wingate head track and field coach
Travis LeFlore says. "He competed hard, looked great, just a few things didn't go his way. He's going to use this as motivation for next year and will be ready to take it to the next level. I'm extremely proud of his progression this year and it's a huge accomplishment becoming the first WUTF athlete to earn first team All-American four times."
Vanisha Wilshire (Louisburg, N.C.) set a new school record in the triple jump with a mark of 12.43 meters as she finished in 14
th place. Wilshire set the mark in her final attempt as she topped her previous personal best of 12.36 meters.
Rellie Kaputin (East New Britain, Papua New Guinea) of West Texas A&M was the winner with a mark of 13.28 meters.
"Vanisha had an awesome competition, coming from a short approach and still jumping close to 41 feet is a tremendous feat," LeFlore says. "There is no doubt in my mind that she will continue to work hard and have an even bigger season next year. I'm very proud of her."
