Wingate, N.C.----Damian Clarke of Rollins College scored his second goal of the night with two minutes remaining in regulation, giving the visiting Tars a 2-1 victory at top-ranked Wingate University in NCAA Division II men's soccer action Saturday at Pride Park. Rollins improves to 1-0-1 on the year, while the Bulldogs fall to 1-1 overall.
Clarke got Rollins on the board in the fourth minute, taking a
George New feed and heading it home to make it 1-0.
Wingate scored the equalizer five minutes into the second half. Sophomore
Elliot Cutts (London, England) took a feed from redshirt senior
Felipe Checco (Brotas, Brazil) and found the back of the net for the third time in two games as a Bulldog. Checco has three assists in his two-game Bulldog career.
Rollins had the answer in the final minutes. After a corner kick, the ball was bouncing around the top of the box when Clarke found some space and lined one into the corner to give the Tars the late goal and the victory.
Each team took 13 shots on the night, with each side also registering seven shots on goal.
Drew Trautmann had six saves on the night for the Tars. Junior
Pablo Jara (Santiago, Chile) registered five saves for the Bulldogs.
