Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bulldogs drop second straight match with 1-0 loss at Chowan

Murfreesboro, N.C.---- For the second straight match, the Wingate University men's soccer team was victimized by a late goal as Chowan senior Terell Williamson (Alexandria, Va.) scored in the 84th minute to lift the Hawks to a 1-0 victory over Wingate Wednesday afternoon at Hawks Field. The Bulldogs, playing in their first road match of the year, fall to 1-2 overall. Chowan evens their record at 1-1.

The teams had play halted for an hour in the 40th minute due to a lightning delay. After the delay, the two teams finished the final five minutes of the first half scoreless. Senior Felipe Checco (Brotas, Brazil) had one of Wingate's best chances, hitting the post in the 56th minute. Senior Jon Ander (Bilboa, Spain) led the way offensively in his first game of 2017, registering seven shots.

The Bulldogs outshot the Hawks 13-7 on the night, holding a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Pablo Jara (Santiago, Chile) had three saves for the Bulldogs, while Elliot Chadderton (Oldham, England) saved five Wingate shots to pick up the win.

Wingate will return home Saturday, hosting Bob Jones University in the first meeting between the two teams. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. on ESPN3. Chowan is also home on Saturday, welcoming in the Emmanuel Lions for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
