UNC Pembroke hangs on for 76-69 victory over Wingate

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs fought back from an early double-digit deficit to take a halftime lead Tuesday night, but UNC Pembroke outscored the 'Dogs 42-34 in the second half en route to a 76-69 victory in NCAA Division II men's basketball action. The Braves improve to 3-1 overall, while Wingate falls to 2-3 on the season.

- Wingate shot 38 percent from the field and 48 percent from three-point range (15-for-31)
- UNCP shot 43 percent from the field, hitting six-of-23 from beyond the arc (26 percent)

FIRST HALF

- Akia Pruitt's bucket gave the Braves an early 9-4 lead, but a Haskins three and Strozier bucket tied it
- A Spencer Levi layup and Cam Hamilton three gave UNCP a 26-13 lead at the midway point
- Wingate closed the half on a 22-8 run to take a one-point halftime lead
- Triples from Haskins and Dawkins got the 'Dogs within four at the 6:52 mark, while Johnson's three made it a two-point game
- A Haskins three at the 2:27 mark got WU within one; Johnson's bucket a minute later put the 'Dogs on top
- The Bulldogs held the Braves to just two points over the final four minutes

SECOND HALF

- UNCP scored the first nine points of the half, taking a 43-35 lead on a James Murray-Boyles three
