Lions use late run in 87-73 victory over Bulldogs

Franklin Springs, Ga.----The Emmanuel College Lions used a late 10-0 run Saturday afternoon, outscoring visiting Wingate University 49-36 in the second half Saturday afternoon en route to an 87-73 victory in NCAA Division II men's basketball action. Emmanuel improves to 3-2 overall, while the Bulldogs fall to 2-4 on the season.

KEY STATS

- Emmanuel shot 49 percent from the field while WU shot 39 percent
- The Lions hit seven-of-23 threes (30 percent); Wingate was eight-for-25 (32 percent)
- Emmanuel held a 37-33 rebounding edge and 14-10 second-chance points advantage
- EC outscored Wingate 48-28 in the paint; the 'Dogs scored 17 points off 15 Emmanuel turnovers
- The Lions converted 16 Wingate turnovers into 24 points

KEY BULLDOGS

- Marco Haskins had 21 points on five-of-eight shooting from three-point range

FIRST HALF

- Austin Greene's three gave Emmanuel a 20-15 lead midway through the first half
- Two Haskins threes and a Hovasse triple tied it at 24 with 9:21 to go
- A Haskins three with seven minutes left put the 'Dogs on top 29-27
- Kendrick Colvin's bucket with 17 seconds remaining gave the Lions a 38-37 halftime lead

SECOND HALF

- Colvin scored five points in the first minute of the second half to push the EC lead to six
- Back-to-back dunks from Strozier gave Wingate a 46-45 advantage at the 16:49 mark
- Emmanuel scored the next eight points, taking a 53-46 lead on a Nathan Williams three
- Derek Vandiver hit a triple with 12:25 left to give the Lions a 10-point advantage
- A Tayor dunk and two Jakob Dawkins free throws got WU back within three
- Emmanuel used a 10-0 run to take a 15-point lead, with two Colvin free throws making it 83-68 with 1:27 left
