Geva wins clincher as ‘Dogs take down Radford 5-4

Box Score Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs went 4-2 in singles play Sunday afternoon, rallying for a 5-4 victory over NCAA Division I foe Radford in NCAA men's tennis action. Wingate improves to 5-2 overall, while Radford falls to 1-2 on the season.

The Highlanders won two of the three doubles matches Sunday afternoon. Wingate's number one team of senior Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) and sophomore Daniel Belsito (Charlotte, N.C.) rolled to an 8-1 victory. Radford won 8-4 at two doubles, while Wingate's number three doubles team of freshmen Matthew Jones (Shrewsbury, United Kingdom) and Enrico Giacomini (Vicenza, Italy) dropped a tight 8-7 decision.

Belsito won 7-5, 6-3 at number one singles, while Jones prevailed 6-3, 7-6 at four singles. DuToit added a 6-3, 6-1 victory at number five singles, with Radford winning at two and three singles to make it 4-4. Sophomore Tamir Geva (Jerusalem, Israel) dropped the first set in six singles 6-7, but fought back for a 7-5 victory to force a third set. He jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third, but Radford's Carlos Sala battled back to make it 5-5. Geva won the final two games to win the set 7-5 and clinch the match for the Bulldogs.

Wingate is back in action Saturday, taking on Bluefield State in Charlotte at 2 p.m.
