#24 Wingate opens league play with 7-2 victory over Trojans

Wingate, N.C.----The 24th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs rolled to a 7-2 victory Tuesday afternoon in the South Atlantic Conference opener over Anderson University in NCAA Division II men's tennis action. Wingate moves to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in the SAC, while the Trojans fall to 5-3 overall and 0-1 in league play.

The Bulldogs went 2-1 in doubles play, starting with an 8-1 win at number one doubles from the nation's 11th-ranked duo of Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) and Daniel Belsito (Charlotte, N.C.), who move to 7-0 on the year. Junior Duncan Addison (Halifax, Canada) teamed with freshman Josep Canyadell (Lleida, Spain) for an 8-4 victory at number two doubles as Wingate took a 2-1 lead to singles play.

Belsito, ranked 31st nationally, rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 win at one singles, while Canyadell prevailed 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 at number two singles. Freshman Matthew Jones (Shrewsbury, United Kingdom) won 6-2, 6-3 at three singles, while classmate Enrico Giacomini (Vicenza, Italy) picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory at four singles. DuToit cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at five singles to cap the day for the Bulldogs.

Wingate is back in action Sunday, traveling to Georgia College for a 12 p.m. start. The Bulldogs were scheduled to host Limestone Wednesday, but that match has been postponed due to weather. The match will now take place March 29 at Wingate.
