Bulldogs cruise to 9-0 victory over Golden Bulls

Box Score Charlotte, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs were dominant Thursday afternoon, picking up a convincing 9-0 victory at Johnson C. Smith University in NCAA Division II men's tennis action. Wingate improves to 3-1 overall, while the Golden Bulls fall to 1-6 on the season.

The Bulldogs swept through doubles play Thursday, starting with an 8-2 victory at one doubles from junior Duncan Addison (Halifax, Canada) and freshman Josep Canyadell (Lleida, Spain). Freshman Matthew Jones (Shrewsbury, United Kingdom) and Enrico Giacomini (Vicenza, Italy) prevailed 8-0 at two doubles, while an 8-3 victory at number three doubles from senior Jerome Desrosiers (Drummondville, Quebec) and sophomore Tamir Geva (Jerusalem, Israel) gave Wingate a 3-0 lead heading to singles play.

Canyadell won 7-5, 6-3 at number one singles, while Jones and Giacomini cruised to 6-0, 6-0 victories at two and three singles. Geva prevailed 6-0, 6-1 at number four singles, while Addison rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at five singles. Desrosiers wrapped up the day with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number six singles for the Bulldogs.

Wingate is back in action Saturday, traveling to USC Aiken for a 1 p.m. start.
