Pittsburg, Kan.----The Wingate University men's track and field team added two All-American trophies to its collection Saturday, as senior Nate Patterson (Mauldin, S.C.) earned first team honors in the men's triple jump and junior Isaiah Kyle (Morristown, Tenn.) received second team laurels in the men's high jump at the NCAA Division II indoor track and field national championship meet (NCAA indoor results). Pittsburg State University hosted the event at the Robert W. Plaster Center.

Nate Patterson

Patterson finished seventh in the men's triple jump to make first team All-American. He posted a 15.35 meter mark on his first and his third attempt, easily qualifying for the nine-person finals. Texas A&M Commerce senior DeVontae Steele (Marlin, Texas) won the event with his leap of 16.25 meters.

Wingate head coach Travis LeFlore on Patterson:

"Nate had a very solid competition. He had a few great jumps and a couple which got away, but jumping just shy of his indoor personal best and another All American finish leaves me extremely proud of him!"

Isaiah Kyle

Kyle finished 10th in the men's high jump to earn second team All-American status. Kyle cleared 2.03 meters on his second attempt. He cleared 2.08 meters on his third try. Kyle was unable to clear 2.11 meters on three attempts.

Carson-Newman senior Tanner Stepp (Jefferson City, Tenn.) won the men's high jump competition with his mark of 2.17 meters. He cleared the gold medal height on his third and final attempt.

Wingate head coach Travis LeFlore on Kyle:

"Isaiah didn't have his best day today, but I'm proud of the way he competed. I know he will be fueled and ready to get back to work and redeem himself come outdoor season."

Wingate's first outdoor meet of the 2018 season is March 16-17, when the Bulldogs will travel up Highway 74 to participate in the Charlotte 49er Classic. The South Atlantic Conference outdoor track and field championship meet is slated for April 20-21 in Hickory.
