#24 Bulldogs move to 2-0 in league play with 8-1 win at Catawba

Box Score Salisbury, N.C.----The 24th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs rolled to an 8-1 victory at Catawba College Thursday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action. The Bulldogs improve to 9-3 overall and 2-0 in the SAC, while Catawba falls to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in league play.

The Bulldogs went 2-1 in doubles play, starting with an 8-1 victory at one doubles from the nation's 11th-ranked duo of Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) and Daniel Belsito (Charlotte, N.C.) Freshmen Matthew Jones (Shrewsbury, United Kingdom) and Enrico Giacomini (Vicenza, Italy) prevailed 8-6 at three doubles to give the 'Dogs a 2-1 lead heading to singles play.  

Belsito won 6-4, 6-2 at number one singles, while Jones picked up a 6-4, 6-1 victory at three singles. Giacomini prevailed 6-2, 7-5 at four singles, while DuToit added an 8-3 win at five singles. Sophomore Tamir Geva (Jerusalem, Israel) won 8-5 at number six singles for the Bulldogs.  

Wingate is back in action Saturday, traveling to Carson-Newman for an 11 a.m. start.
