#24 Bulldogs pick up big regional victory with 5-4 win over Bobcats

Box Score Milledgeville, Ga.----The 24th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs notched another impressive region victory Sunday afternoon, prevailing 5-4 at Georgia College in NCAA Division II men's tennis action. Wingate improves to 8-2 overall and 7-1 against Division II opponents, while the Bobcats, the fifth-ranked team in the region, fall to 4-2 overall.

The Bulldogs went 2-1 in doubles play, getting an 8-5 victory at one doubles from the nation's 11th-ranked team of Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) and Daniel Belsito (Charlotte, N.C.). Freshmen Matthew Jones (Shrewsbury, United Kingdom) and Enrico Giacomini (Vicenza, Italy) rolled to an 8-3 win at three doubles to give Wingate a 2-1 lead heading to singles play.

Belsito, ranked 31st in the nation, stayed unbeaten in Division II play this year with a 7-6, 6-4 victory at one singles. Giacomini prevailed 6-4, 6-2 at number four singles, while sophomore Tamir Geva (Jerusalem, Israel) gave the 'Dogs the victory with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 victory at six singles.

The Bulldogs are back in action for another challenging road match Monday, taking on fourth-ranked Columbus State at 1 p.m.
