#24 Bulldogs fall at fourth-ranked Columbus State

The fourth-ranked Columbus State University Cougars handed 24th-ranked Wingate University only its second setback in NCAA Division II play this season, prevailing 9-0 in men's tennis action Monday afternoon. The Cougars improve to 8-2 on the season, while the Bulldogs fall to 8-3 overall.

The number one doubles match featured a pair of top-15 doubles teams, with the Cougars second-ranked doubles team prevailing 8-4 over the 11th-ranked doubles team of Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) and Daniel Belsito (Charlotte, N.C.). Wingate's number two doubles team of Duncan Addison (Halifax, Canada) and Josep Canyadell (Lleida, Spain) dropped an 8-6 match at two doubles, while CSU picked up an 8-2 victory at three doubles.

The number one singles match also featured two of the top players in the country, with Wingate's Belsito, ranked 31st, dropping his first singles match to a Division II opponent when the nation's top-ranked player KP Pannu prevailed 7-6, 6-2. DuToit dropped a tight 7-5 opening set at five singles, falling 6-2 in the second set. Sophomore Tamir Geva (Jerusalem, Israel) also lost the opening set 7-5 at six singles before falling 6-1 at six singles.  

Wingate is back in action Saturday, hosting Francis Marion at 12 p.m.
