#10 Bulldogs advance to SAC title match with 5-2 victory over #35 Tusculum

Cayce, S.C.----The second-seeded and 10th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs are onto the SAC Tournament championship match after prevailing 5-2 over No. 35 Tusculum College in the semifinals of the South Atlantic Conference men's tennis tournament Friday afternoon. Wingate improves to 18-5 overall, while the Pioneers fall to 15-8 on the season.

Wingate went 2-1 in doubles play, with the nation's 32nd-ranked doubles team of Daniel Belsito (Charlotte, N.C.) and Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) cruising to an 8-0 victory at one doubles. Freshmen Matthew Jones (Shrewsbury, United Kingdom) and Josep Canyadell (Lleida, Spain) prevailed 8-6 at three doubles to put the Bulldogs on top 2-1 heading to singles play.

Belsito, the SAC Player of the Year and nation's 22nd-ranked player, won 6-2, 6-1 at number one singles, moving to 18-2 on the season. DuToit picked up his second victory over the day at number five singles, winning 6-3, 6-3, while sophomore Tamir Geva (Jerusalem, Isreal) rolled to a 6-4, 6-1 victory at number six singles. Jones and Canyadell were heading to a third set at two and three singles when the Bulldogs clinched the match.

Wingate is onto Saturday's SAC title match, taking on the winner of the Queens vs. Newberry match at 12 p.m. The Bulldogs are looking for their fourth SAC Tournament championship since the 2012 season. Wingate will look to avenge a 5-3 setback in last year's SAC title match against Queens.
