Wingate catches fire in second half to blow past Anderson 88-64

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs outscored visiting Anderson University 54-33 in the second half Wednesday night, rolling to an 88-64 victory in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. Wingate improves to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in the SAC, while the Trojans fall to 8-5 overall and 2-3 in league play.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH GOOD

"I thought after halftime we really locked in defensively and that opened up our offense. We were able to increase the pace, get open shots in transition, get into offense quicker and that most importantly led to Marco getting some great looks."

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 48 percent from the field, including 58 percent shooting in the second half
- The 'Dogs hit 12-of-30 shots from three-point range (40 percent)
- Anderson shot 32 percent from the field, hitting 10-of-29 threes (34 percent)

- Frankie Johnson piled up 11 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and three steals

- A triple and three free throws from Johnson put the 'Dogs on top by seven with 4:29 to go in the half

SECOND HALF

- Wingate used a 14-3 run to take a 47-33 lead four minutes into the second half, getting 11 points from Haskins in the spurt
- Two more triples from Haskins gave Wingate a 57-40 advantage with 12 minutes to go
- A three from Shaw got the Trojans within 14 at the 8:30 mark
- The 'Dogs scored the next six points, with four coming from Logan to go on top by 20 with 7:09 left
- Dunks from Quantra Taylor and Jakob Dawkins, along with a Logan bucket made it 78-54 with 4:37 to go
- Anderson got no closer than 17 the rest of the way
