#11 Bulldogs open season with 6-1 victory at Mount Olive

The 11th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs opened the 2019 season in style, rolling to a 6-1 victory at the University of Mount Olive in NCAA Division II men's tennis action Tuesday afternoon. Wingate moves to 1-0 on the year, while the Trojans fall to 0-1.

DOUBLES

- 2019 SAC Player of the Year Daniel Belsito teamed with 2019 SAC Freshman of the Year Josep Canyadell teamed at one doubles
- The duo cruised to a 6-2 victory
- Senior Matthew Jones teamed with freshman Tolunay Sumer for a 6-3 victory at three doubles
- Senior Duncan Addison and sophomore Enrico Giacomini dropped a tight 6-4 match at two doubles
- Wingate won the doubles point, taking a 1-0 lead into singles play

SINGLES

- Belsito started things with a 6-4, 6-3 win at number one singles
- The nation's 14th-ranked player, Belsito is unbeaten in his last 16 singles matches
- Mount Olive got the win at three singles, but Giacomini prevailed 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 at five singles to make it 3-1
- Jones rolled to a 6-4, 6-2 victory at two singles to push the advantage to 4-1
- Canyadell cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 victory to put the Bulldogs on top 5-1
- Christian Della Cioppa added a 6-2, 6-4 victory at six singles to make the final 6-1
