‘Dogs see winning streak snapped in 83-75 setback against Newberry

Wingate, N.C.----The visiting Newberry College Wolves outscored Wingate University 44-33 in the second half Tuesday afternoon, prevailing 83-75 in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. The Wolves improve to 2-1, while the Bulldogs see their four-game winning streak come to an end, falling to 4-3 overall and 4-3 in league play.

FIRST HALF

- Threes from Cottingham and Tucker gave Wingate an early 7-0 lead
- A Marcus Ford three-point play pulled the Wolves within one at the 15:11 mark
- A QuanDaveon jumper with 12 minutes to go tied it at 13
- Wingate scored the next five, getting buckets from Wilson and Clark to take a five-point lead
- TJ Brown knocked down a triple with 6:08 to go to pull the Wolves within one at 27-26
- Ford's three gave Newberry the lead with five minutes left
- A layup and two free throws from Cottingham put the 'Dogs on top 33-30 with 3:15 to go
- Clark's layup and Bell's triple made it 37-33 with 1:24 remaining
- Luke Seals hit a three to get Newberry within one with 39 seconds left
- Quantra Taylor's rebound and layup in the final seconds gave WU a 42-39 halftime lead

SECOND HALF

- Newberry opened the half on a 13-4 run, taking a 52-46 lead on a Brown triple at the 16:18 mark
- Rashaard Pringle's three-point play pulled Wingate back within three
- A Malakhi Stremlow layup and Jalen Johnson triple put the Wolves on top 66-55 at the midway point
- Cottingham's three-point play at the 6:56 mark pulled the Bulldogs back within eight
- A Johnson three and two Brown free throws put Newberry on top 78-65 with 4:21 to go
- Wingate got no closer than eight the rest of the way
