DMR quartet hits NCAA top 12 at UIndy Last Chance meet

Indianapolis, Ind.----The Wingate University men's distance medley relay (DMR) quartet improved the school record by more than 28 seconds in the UIndy Last Chance indoor track and field meet Sunday at the Athletics and Recreation Center. Wingate's provisional qualifying time of 10:03.54 launches the Bulldogs into the NCAA Division II top 12.

- Wingate's DMR quartet included freshmen Bastian Mrochen, Tico Allen and Jakob Rettschlag and graduate student Jacob Willis
- Wingate defeated SAC foe Queens, host Indianapolis and Southern Indiana in the men's DMR final
- Meg Rapley won the women's 800 meters, breaking her school record with a time of 2:16.41
- Tai Smith won the men's 5000 meters with his triumphant time of 14:19.84
- Jan Bayona finished second in the men's 3000 meters with his 8:37.15 mark

- The NCAA will announce the field for the indoor national championships later this week
- The 2021 NCAA Division II indoor national championship meet is March 11-13
- The event will be held in Birmingham, Alabama at the Birmingham CrossPlex
- Wingate will open the outdoor season on March 20 at the Lee (Tenn.) Invitational
- The Bulldogs will compete in the L-R Bears Open on March 21
