Wingate, N.C.----For the second time in three weeks and third time in six weeks, Wingate University redshirt sophomore right-hander
Brody McCullough has been named the Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). McCullough has also earned SAC Pitcher of the Week accolades three times during his dominant span.
McCullough continued his incredible stretch by registering two more shutout outings, highlighted by six dominant innings against a Catawba team that leads the league in batting average. McCullough tossed 8 2/3 shutout innings on the week, allowing five hits while striking out 11.
McCullough got the start against Catawba Tuesday and overpowered the league's top offense. He went six innings against the Indians without allowing a run, striking out nine while allowing just two hits to earn the win. He added 2 2/3 shutout innings of relief at Anderson on Sunday, adding two more strikeouts.
McCullough is 5-1 with a 1.37 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings of work, adding three saves. He ranks second in the SAC in ERA, fourth in strikeouts per game, fifth in strikeouts and sixth in wins and saves. Over his last 11 appearances, McCullough has gone 34 1/3 innings, allowing just two runs on 17 hits while striking out 43, posting a 0.52 ERA. He has five wins and three saves during the stretch.
Wingate is back in action Wednesday, hosting Lander at 6 p.m.
