Rock Hill, S.C.----Wingate University sophomore backstroke specialist
Marta Beesmans Barquero (Madrid, Spain) is this week's South Atlantic Conference Swimmer of the Week, league officials announce Wednesday. Beesmans Barquero receives this distinction for the first time in her young career.
Beesmans Barquero won the women's 200 Backstroke at the Ohio Invitational Friday with an NCAA D2 season-best time of 2:01.75. Wingate finished second in the four-team event as Beesmans Barquero collected five medals (one gold, three silver and one bronze). In addition to Division I schools Ohio and Bellarmine, Division II Findlay swam in the two-day competition.

The No. 8 Wingate men make the short trip to Salisbury Friday to face the host Catawba Indians and the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears. The first event at the Johnson Pool is slated for 5 p.m. Friday evening. The No. 6 Bulldog women host Catawba and Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday at the Wingate University Natatorium. The first event starts at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
