Complete College Sports Communicators AAA men's soccer release
Austin, Texas----Wingate University men's soccer senior defender
Owen Marshall ('22, York, England) is an Academic All-America® third team selection, College Sports Communicators officials announce this week. Marshall receives Academic All-America® laurels for the first time in his illustrious career.
Marshall is one of only two NCAA Division II men's soccer student-athletes to earn the 2022 academic-athletic triple crown: All-America playing honors from both the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and the United Soccer Coaches, along with College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® laurels. The only other player who can make this claim is Notre Dame College (Ohio) sophomore midfielder

On the pitch, Marshall was named a first team All-American from both the D2CCA and the United Soccer Coaches this year. Marshall is the second Bulldog to earn both academic and athletic All-America honors in the same season. The first was defender

What They Are Saying
Wingate head men's soccer coach
Gary Hamill on Owen Marshall
"Owen exemplifies the qualities of a dedicated student-athlete. He not only excels in the classroom, but also as a natural leader on the field. He joins national champion Damian Gaona as the only Bulldog to receive academic and playing All-America honors in the same year. Owen deserves the recognition, because I know how hard he works behind the spotlight."
Owen Marshall, in his own words
"Wingate University was exactly what I imagined it would be from the first day I stepped on campus in 2019. Athletically, the facilities are top level and the coaching is top notch. Academically, Wingate met all my expectations. The faculty has guided me and helped me every time I faced a difficult situation. They have been very responsive and have helped me achieve my goals."
"I am very grateful to my advisor,
Dr. Kristin Stowe. She has been a massive help to me every step of the way. Her advice during our regular meetings has allowed me to articulate my dreams and goals. Dr. Stowe deserves much credit for helping me make plans to achieve success following my playing career."
